ABOUT US

My name is Dr. Winn Sams and I am a Chiropractic Physician who practices in a small town in North Carolina. I am also a Mom to 3 beautiful daughters. This mission started over 6 years ago when I began to notice how hard it was for my girls to lift and carry their backpacks. I even had a difficult time lifting them!

Being a Chiropractor, I knew the damage that was happening and decided to take a stand. I started calling legislators at that time to discuss legislation, but the timing wasn’t right. Timing is perfect now. We have shifts and changes happening everywhere within our health awareness of needing to take personal responsibility for not only our choices, but being called to help those who need our support.

We have research and articles popping up consistently of others that are concerned. Many states have tried to address this issue and have failed to bring anything substantial that truly makes the changes necessary.

YOU have a ground breaking opportunity to make this change now with us. I have invested countless hours and amounts of energy into collecting information and talking with groups, professionals and legislators so that we can be best poised to command the attention that this issue rightly deserves, but I can’t do this alone. I am going state to state to implement this huge change and from there, I hope the message can go worldwide.
OUR MISSION

This mission is deeply rooted in a Passion to bring expansion, education and awareness to the public about the adverse health implications from wearing too heavy of a backpack. This issue covers everyone, but our focus lies in addressing young children and teens, as their growing spines are much more at risk for irreversible damage. Visits to doctors across the board and emergency rooms have increased in epidemic numbers, where findings are noted of milder symptoms like muscle soreness to more serious issues such as herniated disks.

Cases of scoliosis in our children have increased substantially and degenerative symptoms that are usually found as we age are being routinely reported in our young children and teens. This website is designed to help bring this issue to light, by implementing and designing structures that support change, such as legislation or a resolution.

There are potential opportunities to partner with affiliated groups and businesses such as book publishers, who are already promoting digital textbooks as viable options. But more importantly, this mission links us together, no matter if you are a parent, health professional or just concerned individual for a united cause. We have included information, research, articles and links that help us see the damage that is not only happening outside, but more importantly, on the inside. Please browse through the selections available, take time to learn and join our Passion by signing our Support Log.

Share your story or suggestions so we can show our legislators how much we care by showing our support. Every comment matters! Thank you!
